Beyonce inspired a strength among women when she asked the question "Who runs the world?" in 2011. If you haven't figured it out yet, the answer is GIRLS. I'm sure there are a few of you willing to back up this claim, or at least agree that teaching self-awareness to girls (as well as boys, I wouldn't discriminate) at an early age is crucial. The Boys & Girls Club of Tipton County agrees. They have been doing their part to give the girls of Tipton County the confidence to succeed and make a difference.
The Club received a grant from the Women's Fund for a program called "Beautiful You" for pre-teen girls. It started this summer and is still going strong with an active, committed group of girls learning about themselves.
Each week consists of a different theme, activity, and lesson with the hope of positively impacting these girls and having them walk away with a greater understanding and pride in themselves. The overall focus is inner beauty and strength, which is something I think we could all benefit from.
The Women's Fund exists to provide opportunities for women and girls in Tipton County. Each year, the award a grant to an organization with this common goal in the summer.
